LotR 162, 163 - The Seventh Level and Flight from Moria

Every three weeks or so a colleague from work stops be and we continue our quest through the Lord of the Rings LCG card game. We punished Into the Pit during our last meetup. Today, we're seeing if we can find our way to the seventh level, in search of Balin, find out what happened to the old boy.

The Seventh Level

This is a to stage quest, with a lot of goblins and orcs. Solo it's tough because they tend to bunch up and swarm. Each of the quest stages is pretty long, 15 and 17 respectively.

In our game, we got the usual swarm of orcs coming out, but since I was always questing with Thalin, they always landed with 1 hit of damage in the staging area. At peak swarm we around 6 in play, and it was looking dicey. But Longbeard Orc Slayer showed up and put a second damage on 5 of them which took them out of play. We power quested for the win shortly afterward.

I can see why this quest could be rated a "3" as it states on the rules. It has absolutely punished me in the past playing solo though.

Flight From Moria

Since the search for Balin was a bust, we then had to get ourselves out of Moria.

After taking A Wrong Turn, we found ourselves Blocked By Shadow, and we chose to roll the dice take our chances on the Encounter deck. If I was the only person drawing a Trechaery, my colleague in arms could probably have won it with the power questing Dain deck he runs. As it turns out, we both drew treacheries, and that was the game! Still, pretty cool. I'm getting to be a fan of aggro questing, at least early in the game when I haven't gotten much invested in it. Getting lucky can pay off big, whereas hedging can sometimes draw out a game longer than it needs to go.
