Rocketmen & more
My usual light game opponent/collaborator stopped by for a couple of hours after noon. Both of us are pretty busy with work-related activities, and in my case holiday and imminent travel. Neither of us had much appetite for anything heavy.
For this Saturday afternoon, we played, in order, Jump Drive, Zombie Dice x2, and Rocketmen.
Jump Drive 107
Jump drive game again with JC, this is his second game. He smoked me pretty good on the first game. This is not uncommon for me to lose when I’m traching someone how to play.
Anyways, JC ended up with 38 points and I ended up with 84 points. We went seven rounds on this game. I ended up with three Galactic Trendsetters. Josh was lined up towards yellow with an Alien Technology Institute, but he wasn’t able to get more yellows on the table fast enough.
Zombie Dice 36 & 37
We played a couple of times. Strangely enough, I won both times. Not my usual result in this game; I usually lose and it’s a matter of how much I lose. We played the basic game, no expansions.
- First game: Dave 13, JC 3.
- Second game: Dave 13, JC 8.
Rocketmen 2
The main even of the day was Martin Wallace’s Rocketmen. I had played this once before, solitaire, but didn’t recall much of it at all and the rules felt like a real slog. This is typical for me for “euro” games, I find the rules hard to read and understand. Wargames are so much easier: there is a turn sequence to follow, everything happens in order. What we were able to do is work through the mechanics of how to purchase cards, play missions, launch rockets, etc. We didn’t get the iconology right, that part was confusing.
Here is a great Rocketmen playthrough video from Monique and Naveen. I’m pretty happy that we got most of the mechanics right, even through it felt like a real slog when going through the rules.
