New deck: The Eagles Are Leaving!.
Using the previous deck as base, I pulled out a bunch of eagles, and added in more existing cards which are really helpful, like Unexpected Courage, Dwarven Axe, Feint, etc.
This deck is just a little weak on questing, but then again, the eagles weren't very good questers either.
Let's give it a whirl:
- Vassal of the Windlord
- West Road Traveler
- Escort from Edoras
- The Galadhrim's Greetings
- A Test of Will
- Song of Travel
Initial Encounter: Hill Troll. Bzzzt. Game over. Reset: Mirkwood Bats. Ugh. That stinks, but it could be worse.
Round 1
- Resource: 3, draw Swift Strike.
- Planning: Song of Travel on Thalin.
- Quest: Eowyn, draw Woodman's Glade, +1 on quest.
- Travel: Exhaust Thalin to go to Woodman's Glade.
- Encounter: Mirkwood Bats, a 1 hit to all.
- Combat: Mirkwood Bats, undefended, draw Woodman's Glade for no effect. One hit on Gollums, Gimli for the kill.
- Refresh: Threat 33.
Round 2
- Resource: 5, draw Unexpected Courage.
- Planning: Unexpected Courage on Gimli.
- Quest: Eowyn, Thalin, draw The Brown Lands. Discard Vassal of the Windlord for +1.
- Travel: already at Woodman's Glade.
- Encounter: none.
- Combat: none.
- Refresh: Threat 37.
Round 3
- Resource: 6, draw West Road Traveler.
- Planning: play West Road Traveler, swap The Brown Lands with Woodman's Glade.
- Quest: Eowyn, Thalin, West Road Traveler, Gimli, draw Great Forest Web. Net +5 on quest.
- Travel: Gimli refreshes, travel to Woodman's Glade.
- Encounter: none.
- Combat: none.
- Refresh: Threat 41.
Round 4
- Resource: 7, draw Gondorian Spearman.
- Planning: Galadhrim's Greetings, Threat 35.
- Quest: Eowyn, Thalin, Gimli, West Road Traveler, draw Attercop Attercop. Woodman's Glade cleared.
That's the game as far as I'm concerned. Let's see what happens…
- Travel: none.
- Encounter: Attercop Attercop.
- Combat: Gimli defends, draw Shadow Wasted Provisions, discard Stand and Fight, Escort from Edoras, Gondorian Spearman, Dwarven Axe, Citadel Plate. Gimli is killed.
Yeah, it's over, Attercop will just tear through the remaining heros, none of whom have enough mojo to damage it.
Still, I like this deck a bit better. The previous deck had one copy of Unexpected Courage, and it didn't come to play very often. If I could just get a bit more resource generation for this deck, it would be golden. Makes me think a Trisphere with Leadership might work well.
The Eagles Are Leaving! - Return to Mirkwood (Tactics/Spirit)
The name of the deck refers to its genesis in Beorn's deck for this quest which was very heavy on eagles. As noted, I was never able to make the eagles work for this quest, so out they came.
